Genetics will always play a key role in health issues, but we cannot forget how vital epigenetics are in maintaining our health. This refers to your genetics and their expression in the environment we place them in.

Cellulite is the term describing the lumpy, dimpled flesh that can occur on the thighs, hips, buttocks and abs. Some of us may be more likely to develop cellulite based on heredity and genetics.

Why spot reducing won’t cure it

Spot reducing will not cure cellulite. That’s because there is little evidence supporting spot reducing fat – you must lose weight overall. Unfortunately, just losing weight may not get rid of your cellulite, as cellulite is formed in the first subcutaneous layer, the hypodermis.

How to manage it?

There is hope!

  • Drinking a sufficient amount of water will aid in keeping you hydrated.
  • Meeting recommended dietary protein requirements is vital, so you can sculpt lean muscle.
  • Eating a balanced diet without excessive carbohydrates will help you lose weight and excess fat.
  • Exercising frequently will improve circulation and manage weight loss through the reduction of body fat.
  • Foam rolling is a great method for stimulating blood flow.
  • Stop stressing about it! Stress may derail your diet goals.

Take-home message

You can manage your cellulite by restoring balance back in your body through proper nutrition, exercise and lifestyle recommendations.
